It was referred to as the &#8220;Jewish school&#8221; in 1423 and 1508\/09. In all likelyhood there was a synagogue there before the persecution of Fulda&#8217;s Jewish community during the time of the plague.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Around 1550 the Fulda synagogue was the only one in the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, by <strong>1850<\/strong>, the number of community members had grown so much that the seats in the old synagogue were no longer sufficient. The construction of a new synagogue was planned. At the <strong>end of 1857<\/strong> <strong>or early 1858<\/strong>, the Torah scrolls were solemnly paraded to a provisional prayer room.
