Commemoration of the victims of the Reichsprogromnacht on November 9, 1938

Jewish families from Fulda: their faces and their names

The commemoration this year was a special one, as we were able to meet, for the first time ever, at the square of the destroyed synagogue.

Students from their project  “Jewish Life in Fulda” made impressive speeches – they had previously decorated the square with over 400 candles for the murdered people of Fulda. In the square itself they had constructed the word ZACHOR (Remember) , also with candles. Ofra and Shimon Givon, Michael Braunold (all from Israel) and Ethan Bensinger (from the USA) lit Yahrzeit candles together with the young people. The dead were remembered together in a minute’s silence.
